Merida, Otto OH-03184 2017 May 18 Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project Otto Merida was sent to the US in 1961 after Castro's regime took over his father's transportation business. At 14 years of age, Otto landed in Miami as part of the Peter Pan Operation. Catholic Charities sent him to Wilmington, Delaware but he returned to Miami when his parents arrived several years later. Eventually, Otto moves to Las Vegas where he and Auturo Cambeiro started the Latin Chamber of Commerce devoted to the social, political, and financial well-being of the community. no 0

She is now the Director of Gaming Outreach for the International Gaming Institute. Her role in obtaining accreditation for the associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral nursing programs at UNLV is paramount. Mary Ann’s first impression of Las Vegas was that it was desolate and she is proud of the fact that she got to witness Las Vegas become a thriving city. With her help, as the city grew, UNLVs School of Nursing grew right along with it. Mary Ann’s past employment positions include: emergency room nurse at UMC and the chair of the department of nursing at UNLV. yes 0

Miller, Donna Phelps OH-01295 February 28, 2007 Blue Diamond Oral History Project This is the history of Blue Diamond Village. Blue Diamond is located 26 miles southwest of Las Vegas. The village, originally known as Cottonwood Springs, changed its name when the Blue Diamond Company took ownership of the Gypsum mine and built corporate housing for the workers in the early '20s. Near the base of the Red Rock canyon, Blue Diamond Village was originally a stop on the Old Spanish Trail for traders from Santa Fe, N.M., to California between 1830 and 1848, according to the history committee's findings. road for the The Blue Diamond School opened in 1929.
