What is Interlibrary Loan?
UNLV Libraries' Interlibrary Loan section uses established protocols and networks to request material such as photocopies of articles or books on loan from other libraries that are not owned by UNLV. DDS staff determine, on behalf of UNLV patrons, which libraries own requested material and are most likely to provide the items quickly.
Who may use the services?
Only UNLV faculty, staff, and students may use UNLV Interlibrary Loan. Its primary mission is to assist faculty and graduate students in obtaining materials required for their research. Undergraduates may use DDS for course-related purposes only after locally-available resources have been exhausted.
Are there fines on overdue DD items? There will be a $2 per day overdue fine for all books obtained through DDS. This fine applies to ALL patrons.
Are Interlibrary Loan items renewable?
Renewals are determined by the lending library. If renewals are not allowed at all, the paper strap on the item will clearly say NO RENEWALS. If renewal requests are allowed, simply click on View/Renew Checked Out Items in your ILLiad account to access the item and request a renewal on it. You will receive a temporary extension on your due date, and we will send you an official due date via email after we hear back from the lending library.
What do I need to check out a DD item? Bring your UNLV ID to the delivery location you have selected (Lied Circulation, Architecture, Music, or Curriculum Libraries). Your Interlibrary Loan book will be checked out to your ILLiad account, so you will not see it on your regular library circulation record.
How long does it take to receive Interlibrary Loan materials?
Every effort is made to obtain requested materials quickly. While some requests can be delivered within 24 hours or a few days, it is best to plan for a one to four week turnaround time.
How much does Interlibrary Loan cost?
There is no charge for Interlibrary Loan for current UNLV faculty, staff and students.
How do I place a Interlibrary Loan request?
Request items via your ILLiad account. Either access it directly to complete the request form yourself, or use the "Get Text" button that appears in most of our databases.
Helpful hints for requesting materials via Interlibrary Loan:
Be certain that UNLV does not own the material. If you have difficulty determining this, ask for help at either Lied Research & Information desk, or branch library service points.
Be certain that all of the information on the Interlibrary Loan form is correct.
Materials borrowed via Interlibrary Loan MUST be returned to the Lied circulation desk, or to branch library service desks. DO NOT return ILL books in outside book drops.
BORROWED BOOKS and other materials do not belong to us; they are lent to us as a courtesy and must be returned to the lending library on time. The borrowing patron is responsible for UNLV Library's ILL overdue fine of $2 per day, in addition to any fines or fees levied by the lending institution for overdue or lost materials.
