Ann Brewington was born on July 22, 1889 in Clarence, Missouri. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Dr. and Mrs. George F. Brewington. Her sister Francis was an R.N. and a school nurse in Boulder City for many years. Francis died in 1973. Brewington's other sister, Ida, married Vail Pittman, who later became governor of Nevada. Ida died in 1984.
Ann taught business education at the University of Chicago from 1923 until her retirement in 1954. She relocated to Las Vegas to be with her parents and sisters, and taught at the University of Nevada, Southern Regional Division, until 1961. In 1981, she was awarded the Distinguished Nevadan citation. At the time of her one hundredth birthday, Brewington resided in Chula Vista, California. Brewington's biographical file contains additional information about her life.
Brewington's collection is very small. It consists primarily of a few letters to Ann between 1984 and 1987 regarding Ida Pittman's death. This collection also contains a letter from Florence Cahlan, and copies of letters sent to Cahlan about an article she had written on Ida Brewington Pittman. The collection includes another article about Pittman that appeared in the December 2, 1984 Nevadan, and has a few hand written notes in the margins, as do a few of the letters. Two photographs were removed to the photo collection (#0053). Ida Brewington Pittman's Collection (#85-77) has additional materials related to this collection.
