Web and Digitization Services (WDS)
The Web and Digitization Services (WDS) Department provides guidance and support for web and digitization initiatives within the UNLV Libraries. The department is responsible for the design, maintenance, and presentation of the UNLV Libraries' website, as well as issues related to digitization of primary source materials, development of internal digital projects, collaborative ventures within UNLV and with local and regional entities related to library digital projects and collections, and internal training for library staff in these areas. Projects that involve development of a computer application or database to manage information resources and services, or that involve presentation and conversion of a physical item (book, article, map, video, audio, etc.) into the digital environment, are handled by this library department. WDS is currently focused on these areas of digital applications in libraries:
In addition, WDS uses CONTENTdm™ as its image content management system, which helps facilitate building and sharing digitization and digital collections over the internet. The department maintains and supports a separate server for this, and provides library support in the development of streaming media and searchable databases. Access to WDS equipment and facilities is available only to UNLV Libraries' staff at this time. UNLV faculty wishing to discuss collaborative web and digital projects should contact Kee Choi, Web Technical Support Manager
at 895-2201 or at kee.choi@unlv.edu. Staff: |
