From the Institute for Global Communications, this site has an activist orientation, and includes current news stories and links organized by subject.

Maintained by the Committee for the National Institute for the Environment, this site includes links to a wide variety of resources including: environmental laws and treaties; state of the environment reports produced by international organizations, countries, and state and regional governments; Congressional Research Service Reports; environmental Yellow Pages; environmental newspapers, magazines and journals on the web; and Your Neighborhood (information resources about the environmental status of your region).

A searchable EPA site that provides descriptive information (metadata) for data sets, databases, documents, models, projects, and spatial data. Some resources can be downloaded directly from EIMS.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/)
A division of the National Institute of Health. Site is searchable and includes answers to health-related questions, factsheets, and pamphlets (click on Facts About Environment Related Diseases). Also connects to the web pages of specific NIEH programs such as the National Toxicology Program (http://ntp-http://ntp-server.niehs.nih.gov/) and the Environmental Genome Project (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/envgenom/).

National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) (http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/)
This United States Department of Agriculture site links to a variety of databases (see Technical Resources), fact sheets and NRCS publications (see General Information), and information on specific NRCS programs. Click on Quick Links at the top of the page to find maps, facts and figures, and information on soils, water quality, buffers, wetlands, and grazing lands.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) (http://www.unep.org)
Poorly organized but searchable site provides information about UNEP conventions and programs, including Agenda 21, press releases and other documents. Also includes environmental legal instruments such as conventions, and reports on the state of the global environment.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (http://www.epa.gov/)
Gateway to EPA resources. Site is searchable, and there is full-text access to a large number of agency publications, including the EPA Journal (click on Information Sources).

U. S. Geological Survey (http://www.usgs.gov/)
Searchable site with much information on the earth sciences and the environment. Go to Site Map/Science Programs and Information/Themes/Environment for resources on anthropogenic and natural contaminants, ecosystems and management, energy and environment, global change, and policy and guidance.

U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (http://www.fws.gov/)
Searchable site with information on environmental contaminants, invasive species, endangered species, the National Wetland Inventory, and more. Use the Index to find out what’s available.

University of Waterloo Scholarly Societies Project (http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/society/)
Provides links to the web pages of hundreds of scholarly societies. Links are organized by disciplines, including Environmental Sciences (http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/society/envirsci_soc.html).

A searchable Department of Energy site with links to resources on land use planning, transportation, green building, municipal energy, sustainable business, disaster planning, measuring progress, rural issues, financing, and resource efficiency. There is also a direct link to Top Sustainable Community Development Websites.

Desertification (http://www.fao.org/ desertification/default.asp?lang=en)
Maintained by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), this site contains technical and scientific data and information available at FAO, as well as links to a number of websites on desertification. Documents are either in French, English, or Spanish, and only some are actually available on the website.

Ecological risk Analysis: Tools and applications (http://www.esd.ornl.gov/programs/ecorisk/ecorisk.html)
Prepared by divisions of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, this site contains information that can be used to conduct ecological screening and baseline risk assessment. It also provides links to other risk related sites.

Environmental Treaties and Resource Indicators (ENTRI) (http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/entri/index.jsp)
A searchable database of international treaties. Database also includes national level socio-economic and natural resource data, and the system allows you to associate treaties with the resource data.

EPA Laws and Regulations (http://www.epa.gov/epahome/rules.html)
Includes links to the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), new and proposed regulations, current legislation, and laws published in the United States Code.

"Covering news and views on risk assessment and risk management." Site is searchable and includes news briefs, a bookstore for ordering risk-related books, full text of reports and papers by various agencies and organizations, descriptions of software, links to other risk-related websites, and more.

An exhaustive list of links organized into categories, including modeling and simulation, systems thinking, simulation and modeling software, resources, and papers.

A searchable database of over 400 case studies pertaining to environmental/development conflicts. Click on Mandela projects for case studies from two other projects, the Inventory of Conflict and Environment and the Environment Statistics and Policy Project. Projects are directed by Dr. James R. Lee of American University’s School of International Service.

A searchable USGS site providing access to online publications and databases through the "NWRC Library," data sets, and contacts for a variety of research issues.

Surf Your Watershed (http://www.epa.gov/surf/)
An EPA site that provides environmental information (watershed health, toxic releases, restoration efforts, stream flow, etc.) on individual watersheds, including Las Vegas Wash and Lake Mead.

World Conservation Monitoring Center: Conservation Databases (http://www.unep-wcmc.org/index.html?http://www.unep-wcmc.org/cis/~main)
Searchable databases on threatened species, protected areas, forests, marine resources, and national diversity profiles, as well as a link to WCMC’s library catalog.

Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) (http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/)
Searchable site includes ToxFAQs, reports on the top 20 hazardous substances, public health assessments of hazardous sites, a small selection of published papers on hazardous waste and toxic substances, and the newsletter Hazardous Substances and Public Health. Also provides access to the Internet HazDat Database, which contains information on over 1300 hazardous sites in the U.S.

The Chemical Scorecard (http://www.scorecard.org)
Enter a zip code and find out which companies are releasing pollutants into the air in that area, what those pollutants are, and how they might effect your health. Or, click on the pull down menu at the bottom of the page to access information on more than 6,800 chemicals, a section on regulatory controls, and lists of chemicals related to specific health problems. This searchable site is maintained by the Environmental Defense Fund.

Environmental Fate Database (EFDB) (http://www.syrres.com/esc/efdb_info.htm)
Maintained by the Syracuse Research Corp, EFDB is made up of several interrelated databases sharing a CAS# file containing over 20,000 chemicals and a bibliographic file containing full references on over 33,000 articles cited. Search for bibliographic information using CAS#, formula, or chemical name.

A cooperative effort of several universities, this searchable site includes Pesticide Information Profiles, Toxicology Information Briefs, Toxicology Issues of Concern, Factsheets, and more.

Hazardous Waste Cleanup Information Web Site (CLU-IN) (http://www.clu-in.org/)
A searchable EPA site. Links are organized by category including: Publications and Software; Remediation; Site Characterization; Vendor Support; and Regulatory Information.

Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) (http://www.epa.gov/iris/index.html)
A searchable EPA database containing information on human health effects from exposure to various chemical substances. Information is organized alphabetically by substance. Also provides links to other sources of environmental health information.

National Toxicology Program (http://ntp-server.niehs.nih.gov/)
Access to abstracts of technical reports prepared by NTP (click on Testing Information and Study Results), chemical health and safety data on over 2,000 chemicals (click on Chemical Health and Safety Information), and the text of the 8th NTP Report on Carcinogens.

Society of Toxicology Sites of Interest (http://www.toxicology.org/AI/SI/sites.asp)
Links to sites maintained by toxicology related professional societies and organizations, government agencies, and other groups of interest. Also included are science policy information, regulatory information, and laboratory animal resources.

Website from the Department of Energy traces the history of nuclear energy from the discovery of x-rays and radioactivity to the explosion of the first atomic bomb through the Cold War and to the cleanup of the nuclear weapons complex. Ends in 1993.

Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) (http://www.nirs.org/)
An activist organization, focus is on nuclear power, radioactive waste, radiation, and sustainable energy issues. Site includes fact sheets and press releases, and other documents indexed in "NIRSNET on the Web"; however, NIRSNET searching is cumbersome, and does not seem to work very well. Provides many links to national and grassroots organizations, sustainable energy related sites, nuclear-weapons related sites, and more.

Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) (http://www.ocrwm.doe.gov/)
A searchable site that includes a great deal of information on the Yucca Mountain Project, including technical documents and reports as well as links to related international, federal, state and local government sites and organizations with other perspectives on the project such as Citizens Alert and the Sierra Club. Brochures, policy and procedures, and regulations relating to waste acceptance and transportation can also be found here.

State of Nevada Nuclear Waste Projects Office (http://www.state.nv.us/nucwaste/)
Includes the text of numerous documents and reports on the subject of nuclear waste and Yucca Mountain, as well as links to federal, state, local and regional government sites, non-governmental organizations, legal resources and technical resources.
