Turbulent Yesterday: A Study in Ghost Towns. The collection also
contains typescript drafts, newspaper clippings and a small amount
of correspondence. Ashbaugh, columnist and editor at the Las Vegas
Review Journal in the 1950s, wrote a weekly column entitled "Ghost
Towns of Nevada" for many years.

Collection contains the records of Las Vegas taxicab activist
Micheal Atharasoglov. He fought to unionize the taxicab drivers
and to restructure the Nevada Taxi Cab Driver's Administration
Authority Charter. There is correspondence between Atharasoglov
and Governor Richard Bryan and Attorney General Mahlon Brown regarding
the poor treatment of drivers by the cab companies and a push
for help from the Nevada State Legislature. There are several
newspaper articles about Atharasoglov's struggle.

of civil engineer C.D. Baker, who served as chief engineer, county
surveyor and two-term mayor of Las Vegas in the 1950s. Baker also
served as a Nevada State senator and assemblyman, and ran an unsuccessful
campaign for Nevada governor. Collection contains mayoral correspondence,
campaign ephemera, scrapbooks, award certificates, and news clippings
relating primarily to his career in politics. The collection also
contains correspondence and newsletters focusing on the Las Vegas
Rotary Club in the 1920s, including the "The Boulder Dam"
newsletter.

Collection is comprised of the field notebooks of Charles Duncan
(CD) Baker, City Engineer and
County Surveyor, responsible for planning and supervising most
downtown Las Vegas street
construction prior to WWII. Baker later served as Las Vegas mayor
and Nevada assemblyman and senator. The field notebooks contain
survey coordinates and elevation data for much of early Las Vegas.
The notebooks provide important information on early property
boundaries, historical elevations and lengths of existing streets

a member of the Rotary Club, and Spencer Butterfield was the President
of the Bank of Nevada. This collection also holds their personal
and business correspondence and eulogies for Spencer Butterfield.

Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization that
worked to improve living conditions in West Las Vegas by providing
a variety of community development services. The organization
began in May 1972, in the wake of a welfare protest march orchestrated
by the Clark County Welfare Rights Organization and Ruby Duncan.
Operation Life grew from this organization and was directed by
Ruby Duncan, as executive director from 1972 until her health
forced her to retire in 1990. In general, this collection documents
part of the history of a non-profit community development corporation.
In addition, the material provides a glimpse of the regulations
and protocol governing the public and private funding process.
The collection also provides a partial documentation of the lives

Mohave Industrial School in two bound volumes. The school served
the Walapai and Mohave Indians at a site near present-day Kingman,

J. Morgan or Assistant Commissioner R.V. Belt) documents the school's finances and administrative operations

ever held by a woman in Nevada. She was instrumental in establishing

BMI workers, development of the town of Henderson, and the creation
of a regular County Hospital to replace the existing Poor Farm.

was formerly called Commission of the Status of Women, established
in 1965 by Governor Grant Sawyer. Governor Mike O'Callaghan requested

Nevadans. The Commission was appointed from 1975 - 1977, and this
collection contains the reports and a variety of documents pertaining
to the Commission and several publications from other states concerning
the status of women.

There is a significant amount of correspondence from Grant to
his mother during his time with the AEF in France during WWI.
One scrapbook documents Zora Grant's work as President of the
Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs in the 1940s.

This collections consists of Robert Griffith's papers pertaining
to the Colorado River Commission (he was chairman at one point
in his career) on water rights, usage and alternate water sources.
Included is a feasibility study of the mechanical system for the
Griffith Phytotronics Laboratories, labs designed for experimenting
with plant growth and development. And finally, the collection
has news clippings about the national air races from 1928, a photograph
of an early airplane, Griffith's American Legion papers, and the
death and burial records belonging to his father, an embalmer.

Halligan worked in the Las Vegas office of the United States Atomic
Energy Commission (USAEC) as operations coordinator for the Nevada
Test Site (NTS). The collection contains various materials on atomic
testing and research on nuclear explosives. Documents include
