It was active in child care issues and in aiding women who desired to be elected to public office.  The collection consists of chapter bylaws, minutes, newsletters, and information on child care and the Act for Better Child Care Services of 1987.  Records of forums, conferences, dinners, newspaper advertisements, financial records, and membership are also included.  Some national information, including a bumper sticker, poster, and two books, complete the collection.</abstract><langmaterial label="Language" encodinganalog="546">English</langmaterial></did>

<bioghist encodinganalog="545"><head>Organizational History</head><p>The Southern Nevada Women's Political Caucus (hereafter referred to as SNWPC) was originally named the Bird Wilson Chapter.  In November 1987 Anita Laruy restarted the organization.  She was formerly a cofounder and first chair of the Bronx Women's Political Caucus.  The purpose of the National Women's Political Caucus was to:</p><list><item>1. Support the Equal Rights Amendment.</item><item>2. Support Freedom of Choice.</item><item>3. Increase the political power of women and the number of women elected officials. </item><item>4. Promote federally subsidized child care.</item></list><p>The Southern Nevada chapter was most active in getting women elected and in advocating subsidized child care.</p> </bioghist>
<scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The material in the  Southern Nevada Women's Political Caucus Collection consists of chapter bylaws, minutes, and newsletters.  There is a large concentration of information on child care and the Act for Better Child Care Services of 1987.  Records of forums, conferences, dinners, newspaper advertisements, financial records, and membership are also included.  Some national information, including a bumper sticker, poster, and two books complete the collection.</p><p>The earliest document in the SNWPC collection is a list of National Women's Political Caucus resolutions on child care for 1973, 1975, and 1981. </p><p>This collection was gathered and donated by Anita Laruy in December of 1994.  Laruy was the chairperson of the SNWPC from November 1987 to December 1990.</p></scopecontent>
