Jazz: A Starting Guide

Part I: Where to Find Jazz in the UNLV Music Library

Most printed jazz materials are easier to locate by searching with subject headings (see below) rather than browsing by call number. A limited number of jazz scores can be found in M1366. Some volumes of transcribed jazz solos can be found in the areas for specific instruments, but are not cataloged separately from non-jazz scores: History of Jazz: ML3505-3509, ML3561 (Lied Main Stacks)
History of Ragtime: ML3530 (Lied Main Stacks)
History of Big Bands: ML3518 (Lied Main Stacks)
Jazz discography: ML156.4

For jazz sound recordings and videos see the online list of Jazz Compact Discs in the UNLV Music Collection.

Part II: Representative Subject Headings for Jazz

Note: Subject headings for almost any instrument can include "(Jazz)", "(Ragtime)" or "(Boogie woogie)" as a trailing qualifier (for example, Piano music (Jazz)). For more comprehensive results, perform a keyword search including the term jazz along with other keywords.
