- Click on AUTHOR, then enter the author's name in the field (Last name, First name)
ex. Bach, J.S.

- If Bach's works just appear you are now free to begin searching.
There are two ways that you can browse through a list of works...
- Click the NEXT PAGE button until you find what you are looking for.
-or-
- Go to the JUMP TO AN ENTRY field and enter a number where you think the piece is located, and click on the JUMP TO AN ENTRY button.
HINT: The entries are in alphabetical order; so the number that you type in will represent where the piece is alphabetically.
- After you have found the piece in the catalog write down the call # and go look in the stacks.
Option Two- Searching By Title, Keyword, or by Subject
From the library's catalog page...
- From the drop-down list (which by default displays "Keyword"), choose Author, Title or Subject, or leave Keyword as the setting.
NOTE:Using the keyword function allows you to look up a song title that may be included in the contents of a collection.
- Enter the author, the title, the keyword(s) (this can also be the title), or the subject.
- Now click GO.
Option Three- Using the Limit/Sort search
After you have done a search...
CAUTION: This option is not always reliable!!!
- Click on the LIMIT/SORT button.
When the screen comes up enter the information into the fields.
For Example: If I am looking for...
Lobet Den Herrn, Alle Heiden
- Unless you have a specific language in mind, leave this field blank.
- Choose what type of material it is.
- Next type in the title.
- Now choose where the item is located. Use UNLV Music Book Stacks (if you are looking for a score) or UNLV Music Media (if your are looking for CD's, tapes, or records.)
- If you have a year of publication, enter it into the appropriate field.
- If you do not have a year of publication, just click on the LIMIT/SORT ITEMS RETRIEVED USING ABOVE DATA button.
If none of these options work or you're still confused, lost, and/or frustrated, please go see a librarian. We are here to help you.
II. You have your call number written down, now what...
How to find your call number in the stacks...
- This is the standard look of a call number...
- Items are first shelved alphabetically by class letter.
- Items are next shelved numerically by class number.
Examples:
  M8.B823 1997
  M219 .B9 1923
  M219.5 .A415 1966
  M220 .H12 HWV 8816 1998
- Items are then shelved character by character by Cutter number (a letter followed by one or more numbers). In other words, treat Cutter numbers as if they were decimals. For example, .18 is smaller than .2 and would come first, so B18 would come before B2.
Examples:
  M25. B29 J4 1923
  M25. B3335 K55 1975
  M25. B4 op. 26 1966
