GUIDELINES FOR USE

All users must read and agree to follow these guidelines.

  • The Studio is available for use by current UNLV students, faculty and staff only.
  • The Studio is to be used only for multimedia projects involving intensive work with video, audio or graphics; or for scanning. Do not use the Studio for word processing, web browsing, email, instant messaging, gaming, or other activities.
  • Priority is given to academic assignments. Only minimal staff assistance will be provided for personal projects.
  • The Studio is limited to no more than 6 people at a time (2-3 per workstation).
  • The Studio is not a private or group study room.
  • Each Studio computer is provided with speakers attached to the bottom of the monitor. Headphones may be required if your project is disturbing other users of the Studio or the nearby staff and public areas. Headphones can be checked out at the Media Resources Desk.
  • NO FOOD is allowed inside the Studio at any time! Drinks in sealed bottles or travel cups only are permitted.
  • Cell phone use is not permitted in the Studio or anywhere in the Media Resources area. If you need to make or receive a call, please do so in an area approved for phone use.
  • Personal peripherals may be hooked up to the workstations in the Studio. These may include, but are not limited to, digital camera, digital video camcorder, USB Zip drive, USB flash drive, USB hard drive, FireWire hard drive. We make no guarantee that your device will be compatible with our equipment, or that your device will not be damaged by library equipment. You are responsible if your device damages library equipment.
  • Cables are available to connect hardware as needed, and may be checked out from the Media Resources Desk. Please use the USB & Firewire ports on the front of the workstations only. Do not disconnect library equipment!
  • Report any problems with Studio hardware and software to the Library Computer Help Desk.

COMPUTER USE POLICIES

All users of the Studio are expected to adhere to the “UNLV Libraries Computer Use Policy.”

COPYRIGHT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this equipment is liable for any infringement.

This includes digital files (CDs, DVDs, MP3s, images, streaming videos, games, etc), VHS tapes, LP records, printed materials, etc.

CONSEQUENCES OF MISUSE

Behavior that adversely affects the work of others and interferes with the ability of library staff to provide good service is considered inappropriate.  It is expected that users of the libraries' public computers will be sensitive to the perspective of others and responsive to library staff's reasonable requests for changes in behavior and compliance with library and university policies.  The University Libraries and their staff reserve the right to remove any user(s) from a computer if they are in violation of any part of this policy and may deny further access to library computers and/or other library resources for repeat offenders.  The Libraries will pursue infractions or misconduct through the campus disciplinary channels and/or law enforcement as appropriate.

WAIVER

Any technology has inherent risks and is subject to failure at any time, even with diligent maintenance.  The UNLV Libraries and their staff accept no responsibility for loss of data, corruption of data, loss of network connectivity, hardware malfunction, software malfunction, bad advice, etc.  Users choosing to connect their own input devices (digital camera, digital video recorder, etc) or output devices (FireWire storage, USB storage, etc) to UNLV Libraries equipment do so at their own risk.
