TECHNICAL SUPPORT
All users should have a solid understanding of these basic computer operations prior to using the Studio:
- Using Windows XP
- Launching an application
- Opening files from storage media
- Saving files temporarily to the computer’s hard drive (“My Documents”)
- Saving files to your removable storage media (CD, DVD, USB flash drive, USB external hard drive, firewire external hard drive)
Staff from the nearby Library Computer Help Desk (LCHD) can assist Studio users with basic support issues such as:
- Orientation to our hardware & software resources
- Basic hardware & software questions
- Access to “Home Directory” or H drive
Studio staff may be available to provide more detailed support upon request at certain times; please inquire at the Media Resources Desk for availability. Appointments are required for in-depth assistance.
LCHD staff and Studio staff can make recommendations for which hardware and software to use for your project; however, we cannot make recommendations regarding the aesthetics or content of your project, and we cannot do any part of your project for you.
APPOINTMENTS FOR ASSISTANCE
- The Studio is primarily a self-service facility. Users who are unfamiliar with the hardware and software can explore on their own, using our manuals, handouts and links to tutorials online.
- Basic, brief staff assistance is available 10 am to 7 pm Monday—Friday through the Media Desk (895-2122).
- Evenings and weekends are self-service.
- Appointments are necessary for those users requiring in-depth, lengthy, or detailed assistance. Please fill out one of the forms provided on the door of the Studio to request an appointment. Please allow 48 hours for staff to contact you to arrange a time to meet. Arriving more than 15 minutes after the start of your appointment will forfeit your appointment.
- We encourage you to start your projects as early as possible. Staff members have many other duties. Leaving the bulk of your work until the last few weeks of the semester may make it very difficult to get appointments and workstation use time.
WORKSTATION RESERVATIONS
- Studio workstations are available on a first-come, first serve basis. Reservations are not being taken at this time. When Studio workstations are full, there is no “waiting list.”
- Studio workstations must be “checked out” at the Media Resources Desk, using your current library-registered RebelCard ID. Please fill out a “Studio Pass” form (available on the door of the Studio.) The check-out period is 4 hours, and may be renewed.
