How long does it take to receive Interlibrary Loan materials?

Every effort is made to obtain requested materials quickly. While some requests can be delivered within 24 hours or a few days, it is best to plan for a one to four week turnaround time.

What do I need to check out an Interlibrary Loan item?

Bring your UNLV ID to the delivery location you have selected (Lied Circulation, Architecture, Music, or Curriculum Libraries). Your Interlibrary Loan book will be checked out to your ILLiad account, so you will not see it on your regular library circulation record.

What is LINK+ and how does it work?

LINK+ is an union catalog of contributed holdings from participating libraries in California and Nevada. Currently enrolled UNLV students, staff and faculty can electronically request a book not available in our library, and have it delivered to you for check out (yes, it's free!) Items may arrive at UNLV in 2-4 business days.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and how does it work?

Interlibrary Loan is a network of various libraries and institutions in North America that agree to loan items to one another. If the UNLV libraries do not have a book or periodical that you are seeking, we will ask others on the network to send a copy to us so that we may in turn loan it to you. You must be a currently enrolled UNLV student, staff, or faculty.

Can I return UNLV library materials to any other libraries?

UNLV library books may be returned to libraries in the Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN) system. Media & Computer Services and Interlibrary Loan materials checked out from the UNLV Libraries MUST be returned to the UNLV Libraries.

Books returned to Clark County public libraries will remain charged to your card until they reach the UNLV Libraries, and you will be responsible for fees assessed on overdue materials.

If I return a book to a book drop, when will it get checked in?

Book drops across campus are emptied every day. Books that are returned to a book drop when the library is closed will be checked in backdated to the last day when the library was open.

Can I renew library materials over the phone?

No. However, if your card is in good standing (i.e., no money owed, no overdue items, library card is not expired) you may renew books online by following the instructions posted at http://www.library.unlv.edu/services/renew_books_online. You may not renew a book if another patron has placed a hold in it.

Exceptions may be made for patrons with disabilities who have made prior arrangements with the Circulation Department.

What should I do if I can't find a book on the shelf where it's supposed to be?

In Lied, ask for assistance at Circulation Desk. In branch libraries (ASL, CML, or Music), ask for assistance at service counters.

If the book has been checked out, you may place a hold on it at any Circulation Desk. You will be notified by telephone or e-mail (if we have your current e-mail address) when the book is available. If we can't reach you by telephone or e-mail, we will mail you a notice. We will hold the book for you for seven days from the time we call you or seven days from the time we call, e-mail or mail you the notice.
