Books that are needed for Reserve are subject to immediate recall. Holds and recalls may be placed on books online or at the Circulation Desk.

YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR LIBRARY CARD TO CIRCULATION STAFF WHEN CHECKING OUT OR RENEWING ALL LIBRARY MATERIALS.

Fines and Lost Books

Fines are assessed on overdue books at $.20 per day, per book, to a maximum of $15.00. There is no grace period. The system will charge overdue fines beginning the first day the book is overdue, but will not generate a bill for a fine that is less than $1.00.

When a book is overdue more than 28 days, it will be declared lost and you will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a NONREFUNDABLE $35.00 PROCESSING FEE. If the book is returned before it is reordered, only the replacement cost will be refunded.

Fines on recalled books which are not returned by the new due date on the recall notice will be assessed at the rate of $2.00 per day, per book, with no maximum. All patrons who fail to respond to a recall notice, including faculty and graduate assistants, must pay recall fines. In addition, library privileges will be suspended until the recalled item is returned and the fine is paid.

Patrons with outstanding charges or overdue books will lose their library privileges and students will be placed on "STOP" with the Registrar's Office. Grades, diplomas, or transcripts will not be released and you will not be able to register for the next semester until the charges are cleared from your record.

NOTE: NOTICES ARE MAILED OUT ONLY AS A COURTESY. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE NOTICES YOU ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURNING OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS AND/OR PAYMENT OF ANY FINES OR FEES INCURRED. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY THE LIBRARY OF ANY ADDRESS CHANGES, SO THAT YOU MAY RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF OVERDUE MATERIALS OR FINES OWED.

Where Can I Return Books

Books may be returned to the Library from which you borrowed them, or to any of the book drops located throughout the UNLV campus. Books that are returned to a book drop when the library is closed will be checked in and backdated to the last day when the library was open.

UNLV library books may also be returned to any of the Community College libraries, Nevada State College, or to the Law Library at UNLV.

Media & Computer Services and Document Delivery Services materials checked out from the UNLV Libraries MUST be returned to the UNLV Libraries.

Books returned to Las Vegas or Clark County public libraries will remain charged to your card until they reach the UNLV Libraries, and you will be responsible for fees assessed on overdue materials.

If You Find a Book in the Catalog, but Can't Find it in the Library

Ask for assistance at the Research & Information Desk. If the book has been checked out, you may place a hold on it at the Circulation Desk. The book will be recalled if necessary, and held for you. You will be notified by email when the book is available. If we cannot reach you by email, we will telephone you and mail you a notice. We will hold the book for you for seven days from the time we notify you.

If a book that is supposed to be on the shelf cannot be located, you may complete a Search Request at the Circulation Desk and an in-house search will be initiated. You will be notified when the book is located, or if the book cannot be found within two weeks.

Due Dates:

Due dates will either be stamped inside the item or printed on a receipt. Knowing the due date is your responsibility. If you are unsure of when your items are due, you may view your record online at http://webpac.nevada.edu/patroninfo or contact the Circulation department at 895-2111.

Renewals:

If your card is in good standing (i.e., no money owed, no overdue items, library card is not expired), you may renew books online by following the instruction posted at http://webpac.nevada.edu/patroninfo. You may not renew a book if another patron has placed a hold on it, or if you have already renewed it the maximum number of times.

If renewing at the Circulation Desk, you must have the books and your library card with you.

Exceptions may be made for patrons with disabilities who have made prior arrangements with the Circulation department.

Holds and Recalls:

Placing a HOLD on a book reserves that book for you. When the library catalog shows that a book is checked out, placing a hold on it will not allow it to be renewed. Holds may be placed at the Circulation Desk or online. To place a hold online:

You will be notified via email when the book is ready for you to pick up.

Computer Access in the University Libraries:

Your library card allows you to:

The barcode number on your Rebel Card ID serves as your User Name, and your password is the last four digits of your social security number. If your social security number is not listed in your library record, then your password is "1111".
