Between the Lines, News from YOUR Research Library: Discover

By BTL on February 24, 2014 9:00 AM | Permalink

Welcome to the latest issue of Between the Lines, an e-newsletter created specifically with UNLV staff, faculty, administrators, and graduate students in mind. As the spring 2014 semester progresses, we encourage you to discover some of the ways the UNLV University Libraries partner to support your teaching and research needs.

In this issue, themed DISCOVER, we share the recent accomplishments of past winners of the Libraries Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research as we begin accepting new research projects for consideration of our annual award.

We also highlight the recent international scholarship accomplishment of our associate dean for Research and Education; the progress of an ongoing library instruction collaboration with the UNLV Composition Program; the unveiling of the Documenting the African American Experience in Las Vegas web portal, a collaboration that preserves documents from the heritage of the Las Vegas black community; and a library guide offering access to mobile optimized databases for researchers on the go.

As Nevada celebrates its sesquicentennial year, guest columnist Su Kim Chung, head of public services for UNLV Special Collections, shares five treasures from early Las Vegas history found in our archive collections.

In addition to Between the Lines, which is published twice a semester, we communicate new information weekly on the Libraries’ News Blog (available at library.unlv.edu) and daily via Facebook and Twitter, where you can read about professional development and training sessions that are open to the UNLV community.

As you discover our continued commitment to being your partner in research through our collections, resources, services, and library faculty and staff, we’ll continue working to fulfill our mission to define the new academic research library—bringing people and information together in innovative ways.

Sincerely,

Patricia Iannuzzi
Dean of Libraries
