Between the Lines, News from YOUR Research Library: Grow

Welcome to the third issue of Between the Lines, an e-newsletter created specifically with UNLV staff, faculty, administrators and graduate students in mind. As the spring 2013 semester draws to an end, we reflect on UNLV Libraries’ accomplishments for this academic year and how we have grown as a campus.

Our library staff and faculty have partnered with you—through special programs and in their everyday activities—in your teaching, learning, research and creative endeavors.

Now in our third issue, themed GROW, we will take you behind the scenes of the “Night at the Library” event, a community outreach workshop hosted at Lied Library for K-12 students participating in the state-level Nevada History Day competition. This is a fabulous collaboration to begin to grow those researchers before they even complete their K-12 education.

We celebrate the one millionth download from Digital Scholarship@UNLV; the creation of the Gaming Press by the UNLV Libraries’ Gaming Research Center; the digitization of UNLV’s “Rebel Yell” student newspaper; the inspirational story of a student who brings her passion for music to library service; and yet another national recognition of one of our librarians.

Remember that in addition to Between the Lines, which is published twice a semester, we communicate new information weekly—including professional development events and trainings—on the Libraries’ News Blog (available at library.unlv.edu) and daily via Facebook and Twitter.

As the semester winds down and you begin your summer research or your summer teaching, remember to contact your librarian. We’ll be here all summer hatching new plans to fulfill our mission to define the new academic research library—bringing people and information together in innovative ways.

Stay cool!
