Architecture Studies Library Laptop Checkout FAQ
1. What do I need to check out a laptop?
You'll need a valid UNLV library barcode and a clear record (no fines, overdues, etc.)

2. Who can check out a laptop?
UNLV students, faculty, or staff. We do not check out laptops to community users.

3. Where can I check out a laptop?
At the ASL Service Desk

4. How long can I have the laptop for?
Up to three hours depending on when you check it out with one renewal for an additional 3 hours depending on availability. There is a $20 late charge per hour or portion of an hour the laptop is late.

5. Can I renew?
Yes, you can have one renewal if other laptops are available for checkout.

6. When can I check out a laptop?
Laptops may be checked out until two hours prior to closing. All laptops must be returned to the ASL Service Desk one hour prior to closing. The last check out will be two hours prior to closing, with a one hour loan period.
  • Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; last check out at 7:00 p.m. for one hour
  • Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; last check out at 4:00 p.m. for one hour
  • Saturday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.; last check out at 3:00 p.m. for one hour
  • Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; last check out at 7:00 p.m. for one hour
7. Can I use the laptops to access the internet?
Laptops are equipped with wireless only connectivity. In order to connect to the network you will need a wireless account. If you don’t already have a wireless account you can sign up for one by going to Have your RebelCard ready as you will need your L#. Laptops can be used anywhere in the ASL.

8. What if the laptop is damaged or stolen while I have it checked out?
While the laptop is checked out to you, it is your responsibility. You can be charged for any repair or replacement costs up to and including the full replacement cost of the laptop.

9. What hardware is available on the laptops?
The laptops are Dell Latitude D610 s with 1 GB of Ram, a video card and and CD-RW/DVD combo drives. The laptops check out with a power cord, a set of headphones, and a carrying case.

10. What software is available on the laptops?
The laptops have current versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, Office 2003 suite (Powerpoint, Word, etc), and WS FTP all running under Windows XP.
