Jelindo Angelo "J.A." Tiberti, 87, of Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006. He was born April 8, 1919, in Morley, Colo,, and had been a Nevada resident for 65 years. J.A. attended Kalamazoo College in Michigan from 1936 to 1938 and the University of Southern California from 1938 to 1940. He arrived in Las Vegas in 1941 as an engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a U.S. Army gunnery school, now Nellis Air Force Base. In 1950, JA established JA Tiberti Construction Company and commenced building Las Vegas. In addition to inestimable commercial and industrial developments, the company has constructed 11 hotel casinos, 10 UNLV buildings and 45 Clark County public schools. Since its founding, Tiberti Construction has completed more than 35 construction projects for the Las Vegas Valley Water District totaling nearly $500,000,000. JA served on the City of Las Vegas Planning Commission for 25 years and was on the Board of Directors Nevada Power Company for 36 years. He co-founded TAB Construction and BAT Rentals. JA's community and professional service included Las Vegas Rotary Club, the Catholic Dioceses of Las Vegas Finance Committee, Associated General Contractors of America, Nevada Society of Professional Engineers, UNLV Palladium Society and the UNLV Foundation. In 1972 JA was named Southern Nevada's Engineer of the Year. He was named Most Distinguished Nevadan in 1987. JA received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from UNLV in 1989, and was inducted into the Nevada Business Hall of Fame in February, 2004. JA was preceded in death by seven siblings; and, in 1987, by his wife, of 43 years, Marietta. He is survived by his sister, Rosina Peterson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; his six children, Tito Tiberti (Sandee), Laura Tiberti, Andra Maffey (Paul), Renaldo Tiberti, Mario Tiberti and Jelindo Tiberti II (Sandee), 21 grandchildren and six great-grand-children.
