Lecture Title: Sense and sensuality : recent work of Sauerbruch Hutton Architects, Berlin.
Available in VHS & DVD: Arch Media NA1088.S22 M37 2005 (b)

Matthias Sauerbruch is a partner in the architectural practice that he founded in London together with Louisa Hutton in 1989. A second office was opened in Berlin in 1993. The work of the partnership has become known for its serious engagement with issues of sustainability. The practice's concern for economic use of resources - both natural and urban - is juxtaposed and extended into the idiosyncratic treatment of spaces on all scales.

Their projects have received many national and international honors, and the work of the partnership has been the subject of various exhibitions and monographs. Louisa Hutton and Matthias Sauerbruch were awarded the Erich-Schelling-Prize for Architecture in 1998, and also received the Fritz-Schumacher-Prize for Architecture in 2003.

Matthias Sauerbruch was a professor at the Technical University in Berlin from 1995 to 2001. Since 2001 he has been holding a chair at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Stuttgart. He has lectured at many national and international universities. Matthias Sauerbruch along with Louisa Hutton are the Kenzo Tange Visiting Design Critics at the Harvard Design School this fall semester.
