The separation of humans from our physical surroundings
has long been a focus of my work. We use architecture,
automobiles, and technology to create a barrier between
ourselves and the world around us. This barrier acts as a
prison for our senses and experiences as much as it protects
us from the threats, inconveniences, and unpleasantness of the
environment. Today we have taken this separation one step
further: the primary form of interaction with many aspects
of the world around us is no longer through a glass
window, but rather through a digital one. Digital media
shrinks, removes context, and fragments images so
they lose their significance and ability to impact us
beyond a cognitive level. |
