Architecture Studies Library (ASL) Reserves

Questions, comments, problems, or concerns about Architecture Reserves should be directed by phone at (702) 895-1959.

The information contained on this page generally applies to Architecture Studies Library Reserves only. Lied Library reserve procedures are available at: [].

Reserve Services Policy

The Reserve collection contains materials that have been placed on limited, semester, or permanent reserve by the Architecture Studies Library, School of Architecture, or instructors. These materials include UNLV library books, personal books, pamphlets, copies of articles, selected reference books, sample exams, papers, and class assignments. The official Architecture Studies Library Reserves Policy can be found at [].

Check-Out Requirements

Anyone with a valid library card that is currently registered in the Library's automated circulation system may check out reserve material. Library cards must be clear of fines or other restrictions to be considered valid. UNLV students, faculty, or staff may access electronic reserves by using their library card.

Loan Period

Loan periods are set by the instructor and cannot be changed without their permission. Reserve material may be checked out for periods of two hours, twenty-four hours, three days, or seven days. Borrowers are limited to two reserve items at any given time. All material is stamped with the due date and time, and must be returned to the ASL Service Desk. Patrons may access as many E-reserves as needed online.

Overdue fines are charged at a rate of $1.00 per hour for two hour and twenty-four hour materials, and $2.00 per day for three-day and seven-day material. THERE IS NO MAXIMUM FINE AND NO GRACE PERIOD. All materials are due at the date and time stamped on the date due slip. There are no fines on E-reserves.

Placing Materials on Reserve

Faculty or their graduate assistants may request that items be placed on reserve for a class or department. Request forms are available at the ASL Service Desk. You may also view, print and complete this ASL Reserve Information and Release Form(pdf) []. This form can also be typed and printed by using Adobe Acrobat software.

School of Architecture instructors may deliver the materials they would like placed on reserve to the ASL Service desk. Additionally, those instructors who wish to have library staff pull materials can drop off the forms listing the materials. Due to copyright restrictions, the faculty member will be required to sign the form affirming that the material placed on reserve conforms to U.S. Copyright guidelines. Forms without signatures will result in processing delays.

When selecting items to place on electronic reserve, please keep the following guidelines/recommendations in mind:

Processing of materials for reserve takes a minimum of 24 hours. At peak periods, such as the beginning of fall and spring semesters, processing can take up to seven days. Items placed on electronic reserve may take additional time for scanning, since all University Libraries share one scanner [at Lied Library].
