| Description: | The introduction of the CMU towers, in the shadows of the Sierra Buttes and perched along the scenic Feather River canyon corridor, “539 dancing bears” was one of the first projects designed for the “Taliesin” master-planned community, Gold Mountain. The “Kiva” influence enforces the centrally focused family design, and fully absorbs the highly-desired southwest solar gain. The radius spine links the proportionally hierarchical spaces together as they step down the topography, and acts as a sundial, evolving throughout the day and year. Great lengths were taken to allow the “dance of light” throughout the structure. The simple yet elegant palette of sand blasted CMU (modern stone), redwood, exposed “bent” fir beams vaults, flat stock Cor-ten steel, and glass affords the desired unadorned, rustic architectural language. |
