Naqoyqatsi Miramax Home Entertainment : Distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, c2002
"In this cinematic concert, the concluding film of the Qatsi Trilogy preceded by critically acclaimed Koyaanisqatsi ("Life out of balance"), and Powaqqatsi ("Life in transformation"), mesmerizing images reanimated from everyday reality, then visually altered with state-of-the-art digital techniques, chronicle the shift from a world organized by the principles of nature to one dominated by technology, the synthetic and the virtual. Extremes of intimacy and spectacle, tragedy and hope fuse in a tidal wave of visuals and music, giving rise to a unique artistic experience that reflects Reggio's vision of a brave new globalized world"--Container

Negotiating place in the design studio UNLV School of Architecture, 2008
Mr. Dorgan lectured about how placement and signs are used in residential areas. While studying in London he learned how important "place" was by just taking pictures of everything around him. As an instructor at Virginia Tech, he asked his students to use a white folding chair as a focus to help them understand placement. This project was a huge success. As an instructor in Las Vegas, he studied how signs were used to display information and attract attention. As a studio project in Las Vegas and Virginia Tech, he had the students to think of a residential area like a chess game and move things around to where they best fit. This was also a way to see how "place" is very important when it comes to being an architect

Pesticide, performance, protest : the theatricality of flesh in Nicaragua UNLV School of Architecture, 2008
The UNLV School of Architecture and the Klai Juba lecture series welcomed its first speaker from the "Uncommon Ground" series, Dr. Alberto Guevara. Dr. Guevara is an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies at York University in Toronto, Ontario. As an anthropologist Guevara studies the social injustices in the world; during this lecture he mainly focuses on the injustices that the banana workers of Nicaragua have endured. Guevara speaks of social injustices as an act of theatrics; every person has a role, and must play it. Guevara's documentaries and research focus on the lack of corporate responsibility toward the negative effects on society. As a result of this Guevara begins to discuss what he calls "performance codes," these codes relate to issues in public space and the human body

Tragedy –“The whole truth" : Architecture . Mystic Fire
Video (1989)
"Tragedy": Greek tragedy has left a legacy which challenges and shocks
our modern attitudes toward calamity and disaster. Modern media has turned
the world into one vast electronic community in which we see one another
but never meet. We no longer seem able to respond to terrible events;
a series of alienated images come into our living rooms through television.
This is quite different from Greek tragedy's attempts to explain, to give
significance, to involve its audience
"Architecture": Architecture is a public art form, shaping the very way
we live. To the Greeks, proportion is not a matter of individual taste
but depends on mathematical laws of harmony which can only be broken at
the expense of beauty. Modern man has a different vision of the city:
the automobile as symbol of private freedom has reduced cities to historic
centers surrounded by a mass of suburbs. This reality of uniformity and
standardization is destructive of anything human

Shashi Caan is the Chair of Interior Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York and principal of Shashi Caan Collective. In this lecture she questions and re-evaluates our concepts of design and architecture and investigates the appropriateness of current design methodology. Shashi claims there is no more avant garde and that design has become entranced by Hollywood/Bollywood, and she seeks answers for the future by critiquing the designs of today. She discusses issues such as form making and the result of too much intellectual design, why today's architecture does not provoke delight at discovery, design vocabulary versus communication (and what we truly mean), designing for humans, color-generated design, and technology in real life
